PLAYING WITH MOZART: a 2D Interactive Cartoon

Application Domain

This scenario represents a common use of INSCAPE in the Cartoon Production.

The scenario is based on a collection of several movie streams, backgrounds and objects, where each stream contains particular animations of a cartoon character. It is possible to assemble different scenes by reusing animations stored in the library.

In this manner it is possible to create and then interactively experience a story. The story sequences are influenced by user inputs which define the sequences that will be shown.

Story Outline

The scenario will present a simple interactive story about the early childhood of Mozart and his sister Nannerl. The user will be able to explore Mozart’s house, play simple games and interact with Mozart or Nannerl.

Opening the story

The story opens with a short introduction to the characters and the rooms the user can explore. The user can then choose which character he/she wants to interact with and which room to explore.

Opening the story

Exploring Mozart house

Each room describes a moment of Mozart’s life. There are four principal rooms: the Music Room, the Play Room, the Library and the Garden.

In the Music Room, Leopold (Mozart’s father) and the Archbishop are waiting for Mozart/Nannerl. They want to hear Mozart/Nannerl one-of performance on the piano.

In the Play Room, a little friend is waiting for Mozart and Nannerl to play the 123 jam tarts game. Using the keyboard, the user can drive characters in the game.

In the Library, the user can access videos about Mozart life by clicking on them.

In the Garden, Mozart’s dog is waiting to play with him. Mozart/Nannerl will throw a bone in the Garden and the user has to control the dog to bring the bone back to Mozart/Nannerl.

At the end of each scene, the user can choose to change character and room, to explore or to quit the story.
