News from Inscape-AAC project

April 9th, 2008 by stu-francesco.t

Hi Inscapers!
I want to share with you our first steps using the software. As you know, at the moment we’re working on the project Inscape-AAC and the first aim is to use photo and video to bring Luca’s word (places, activities, persons) in a small device. I do not deny some difficulties using Lua scripts, and I hope final version of Inscape will find the way to create some more confortable way to work on it.
By the way, we also need to reflect on another problem that interests the hardware stuff. Because of his disability, Luca will be able to enjoy the story we are preparing for him only if we can let him play it using a touch screen as interactive device.

Is there anyone of you that could help us in this regard? Have you ever tried to use a touchscreen for storytelling?

I’m waiting for you answer.

Francesco

Inscape and AAC

March 31st, 2008 by stu-francesco.t

Hello Inscapers,
I’m writing to let you know that our centre of neuropsychology, cognitive and language rehabilitation (Sinapsy., placed in Rome) choose Inscape Beta Version as an instrument to develop a special project. The aim is to provide one of our patient of a tool for his communication needs. The boy is eighteen years old and lives in Rome; since he was a child has been followed by our centre because of his multiple disabilities (severe mental retardation, motor coordination disorder, absence of speech, dehambulation difficulties). Actually he uses a naturalistic sign language and many different tools for his communication needs. The whole project follows the general guidelines of Augmentative and Alternative Communication trend, that suggest a variety and ecologically oriented communication instruments and techniques to reach many communication partners. Together with the family and school teacher we were looking for a more powerful instrument that could put together all the single tools and introduce us in the world of story telling, we made a google research using keywords like “storytelling, social stories” and we’ve been lead to your website. So we started to use the Beta Version of Inscape to build naturalistic stories for Luca, using videos and photo of his real environment. We choose Inscape despite of other instruments and entered in the Open Community to share with you the project. We wish to share our results inside the community and find help and ideas for the project. Did someone does something like that?
You’re welcome for suggest us new way and analyze our proposal.
By the way, I’m Luca’s psychologist

Is there a market for interactive stories?

April 15th, 2005 by Jana Egger

Where do you see potential for marketing interactive stories?
How do you evaluate the potential acceptance among different user groups?
A lot of questions but essential for all of us, working with interactive narratives.
Would a store preferably place an interactive story on the shelf for films or games.
People with exact expectations on the content of these shelves will never buy the interactive story.
How can interactive stories find their way to iTV and mobile phones?
Or are they damned to exist in a corner on the internet.
